About Craig Farr

Percussionist and composer Craig Farr was born in Hertfordshire in England and lives in Bergen. He took a bachelor's degree in both percussion and composition at the Grieg Academy, University of Bergen, and was a freelance musician for a few years, before being  employed in the Norwegian Naval Forces Band in 2002.

As a performing musician, he is just as likely to be seen on stage with jazz groups as with classical music ensembles and has toured with pop bands such as

Kings of Convenience, Scotoma and Ophelia Hope.

Together with saxophonist René Wiik, Farr commissioned, premiered and recorded Ketil Hvoslef's work Cantus Lutra Lutra for saxophone, percussion and wind with the Norwegian Naval Forces Band for LAWO Classics. He has also premiered works by Ørjan Matre,  Jan Erik Mikalsen, Rebecka Sofia Ahvenniemi, Kari Beate Tandberg, among others, and his compositions have been played by the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, BIT20, Vonnegut Collective, Ensemble Avgarde and Manger Musikklag. Farr has received support from the Composers' remuneration fund, Norwegian Cultural Council, Bergen Municipality and TONO.

When not composing and performing music, Farr serves as board member for the Norwegian Composers Union where he has had various roles. He is the leader of Avgarde, a non-profit organisation for local composers in Bergen, and is Artistic Director of the BrassWind festival.
